Quoting Special Paper

Overview

This topic describes how to quote special paper for offset, digital, and copies. The paper specified by the customer is 70 lb. Regency Text, a color paper priced per 100 lbs. by the vendor. You don't carry Regency Text in stock, and there is insufficient call for it to justify adding it to your Buy as Needed file.

First, the Product

1.ButtonPricer From the main menu, click the Quote button.
2.Click the F2 button, select Digital, then double-click Digital, D1/1, 8-1/2x11, 2-up.
3.Click the button to the right of the F3 button, or hold down the Ctrl-Key and press F3.

Next, the Paper

1.Enter "Regency Text" in the Name field.
2.Click the small button in the black panel (the one pointed to by the arrow) to change priced per 1,000 to priced per 100 lbs. Or, click on "We pay per ..." in the light gray panel.
3.Enter a cost of $228.00 in the one-carton bracket.

ANote
These are costs, not prices you charge you customers. You'll find that as you enter your cost in the one-carton bracket, costs in the other brackets automatically adjust. Obviously, Morning Flight has no way of knowing what's in your vendor's price book, so don't expect those estimated bracket costs to be actual. They may be close enough for quoting 500 letterheads but are far too risky to use for 10,000 catalog sheets. You'll find out how to enter real costs in step 9 below.

What is actual are the minimum number of sheets or pounds of paper Morning Flight estimates you would have to order for each of the three quantities you're quoting on. That calculation is based on the type of product, ink colors front and back, full sheet size and yield, and the spoilage rate controlled by the product. Note that you can conveniently set and override that spoilage rate right here, in the special paper window.

4.Click the Weight/Type button, then select Text and enter 70 lb. Click OK.
5.Click the Color button. Enter "Wheatstone". Make sure the blue bullet is next to the gray color bar instead of the white bar on top. Click OK.

ANote
In all likelihood, your paper vendor will charge different prices for white and color. By moving the bullet next to a color bar, you're telling the program that Wheatstone is a color, and to price it as such.
