Quoting Work and Turn

Overview

Work and turn is a way to reduce plate and setup costs for two-sided, x-up printing. The technique is for offset only - copies and digital have no use for it. Even with offset, work and turn can't be preset ahead of time, as part of the product. You need to work up a quote or job order before you can flip the switch. The reason is simple. Not until you've entered the run configuration does the program know whether the job is two-sided.

Seeing that W/T is missing from standard offset products, you'll have to start your quote with a custom version. Highlight the base product that will serve as a template. Then either click the custom product button pointed to by the arrow, or press Ctrl-F2 instead of F2. But first (there's always a but first), make sure you've selected two-sided printing (F4).

In the custom product window, select a press sheet large enough for two-up. If the base product allows for work and turn, the program will at that point automatically switch to W/T. If the base product does not (letterheads, to name one, because of watermark issues), the custom version of it would still allow W/T, but the program won't automatically switch to it. In that case, toggle W/T by either left-clicking where the hand is showing, or by clicking the properties button and then checking the W/T box.

ANote
Just so you know, there's no price difference between a standard product and its custom sibling until the custom version has actually been customized. As long as the properties of the two stay the same, so do their prices.
