Updating in-Stock Paper

Overview

This topic describes how to add or update in-Stock paper. The name used to imply that in-Stock was paper you should carry in inventory, but that's no longer the case. Today, your decision of whether to save paper in the in-Stock or Buy-it file essentially boils down to

Do we need the ability to enter costs per 100 lbs (which leaves out the Buy-it file)?

Can we live with having all paper colors priced the same, making cost updates fast, foolproof, and perfect for web2print, but at the same time unwieldy for very large quantities?

Now that "no partial reams" can be enabled in every category, you should never lose money on a job because you bought paper you're not charging the customer for. Provided you can bring yourself to check the box.

UpdateSTK1

1.ButtonStore Click the My Store button, then click My in-Stock Paper.

2.In the black panel, click Cover/Label.

3.ButtonAddButtonChange Click either the Add button to create a new in-stock paper item in the cover/label category, or the Update button to edit an existing one. For this demo, we'll add a new item, based on 80 lb Classic Laid Cover, shown under the highlight bar.

4.Place the cursor over the paper type (where the glove is pointing) and keep clicking until the type reads "Coated Cover." Place the cursor over the weight and click that until it reads "100 lb." Those are shortcuts. You can accomplish the same thing, slower, by clicking the Weight/Type button.

5.Click the Size button and change the size to 11x17.

6.Click the Vendor button to enter the vendor. If your vendor file is empty, add a new vendor or just leave the vendor's name blank.

7.Enter the Name of the paper and the Carton Content.

8.Enter the Cost of 1,000 11x17 sheets in the full carton bracket for white. This is the price you pay your vendor, not what you charge your customer.

9.ButtonPaperPricer Click the Color button. That will do two things: First, it will price colors the same as white. Second, it will remember that setting for this paper.

3.ButtonAddButtonChange Click either the Add button to add a new color, or the Update button to edit an existing one. For this demo, we'll add a new color.

UpdateSTK6

4.Enter the name of the Color.

5.Either click the appropriate Color Bar or drag the blue bullet up next to it. That tells the program whether to price this as white or as a color.

ANote
Morning Flight will try to determine the color group based on the name of the color you enter. For instance, when you enter "Whitestone", the program will automatically move the blue bullet to the white bar on top of the palette. That works sometimes but not always, and since it affects the price it's kind of important, so be sure to check it before you click OK.
